A Winter Activity By Earthling Kids Club | Living

Hibernation Homes: A Winter Activity from Earthling Kids Club

Following on from our in-store event with Earthling Kids Club, we wanted to bring this partnership to life for all of our Nature Baby community by sharing a KC x NB activity sheet with all of you.

As the days grow shorter and the air turns cold, the living world is doing something extraordinary. Animals are finding their spots, gathering their supplies, and settling in. This activity brings that magic indoors and onto your kitchen table.

      What you’ll need

      • The three printed activity sheets

      • Scissors (parents may need to help younger ones)

      • Crayons or coloured pencils

      • Glue stick

Sheet one and two: Hibernation Homes

This first sheet shows a cosy winter scene, on the second cut-out sheet you’ll find four winter animals and the things they need to survive the cold months ahead. Before cutting, invite your child to colour everything in, then cut out the animals and their supplies and place them where they belong.

Who goes where? What does each one need to get through winter? Let your child decide, there is no right or wrong answer. Once everything is placed they can glue everything down. It becomes less about getting it right and more about the conversation it starts. Why does the hedgehog need leaves? Why does the squirrel hide acorns? Those questions are the whole point.

Sheet three: My Cosy Hibernation Spot

Once the animals are all tucked in, it’s your child’s turn. The second sheet is a beautiful illustrated picture frame with one simple prompt inside: My Cosy Hibernation Spot. Where would they go if they could hibernate this winter? A blanket fort piled with cushions, a treehouse in the woods, a little underground den with all their favourite things.

      Explorer Moments: Noticing Winter Together

Here are a few gentle ways to take the conversation into the world this week:

Look up at the trees. Have they lost their leaves? Find one that still has some and one that’s almost bare. What’s the difference? Where might an animal be hiding in each one?

Notice how you’re changing too. Are you wearing more layers? Going to bed earlier? Drinking warmer things? Humans shift with the season just like animals do, we just don’t always notice. Talk about what your family does differently in winter.

Find a cosy spot together. After completing the activity, build a small den at home: blankets, cushions, whatever you have. Climb in together. Talk about what you’d need if you were hibernating. What would you bring? What would you miss?

This activity is part of Earthling Kids Club. A monthly membership for families with children aged 3–6. Every week, members receive a printable activity sheet designed to connect little ones to the living world around them, alongside explorer moments to take the learning outside. Gentle, screen-free, and genuinely fun.
